Our Team

Andrew Guttell is a math coach in the Newton Public Schools with over 25 years of experience in education. He is passionate about facilitating context based inquiries that develop student mathematical understanding. He values student ownership of the questions being investigated, the solution paths envisioned, and the sharing of ideas with peers. In addition to his work in the classroom, Andrew has taught a wide range of elementary and middle school age students. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, he has developed innovative ways of tutoring remotely though the use of digital white boards and video conferencing. Once it is safe and healthy to do so, he is looking forward to tutoring students in person as well.

Karen Shashoua is a classroom teacher in the Brookline Public Schools with over 20 years of experience.  Karen encourages students to develop a growth mindset, flexible reasoning skills and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts while working on inquiry based challenges. Karen’s warm, creative, and engaging manner promotes a sense of excitement and community among her students.
