Habits of Mind

Mathematical Habits of Mind are the ways that mathematicians approach and make sense of problems. They look for general rules and patterns. They build models of real life situations that allow them to efficiently try out what if scenarios. They consider how the quantities in the problem are related to each other. They create diagrams and equations to justify their claims and they question the claims of others. They think about how the current problem compares to other problems that they have solved. In our tutorial sessions, we focus on how students are developing their mathematical habits of mind as they collaboratively solve problems.
