Our teachers actively support the development of a learning community, provide training on the use of technology, and guide students through problems based in real world or story contexts.
Sessions typically have three parts:
- The launch, when students encounter a real life problem, pose mathematical questions, make estimates, and envision solution paths.
- The journey, when students work towards solutions, represent their thinking with diagrams, equations, and words.
- The landing, when students present and discuss each other’s work to consolidate and extend the learning.
The challenging problems that students engage with range from real world 3 Act Tasks that are completed in one or two sessions to deep dives into story contexts that develop mathematical concepts more fully and may take up a few weeks to complete.
